• Seagate Barracuda 4 ST15150N hard disk drive

  Internal magnetic hard disk drive manufactured by Seagate Technology for use in computers, workstations and data-storage systems. The drive stores information magnetically on rapidly rotating rigid disks inside its sealed black housing, while the exposed printed circuit boards control the motor, positioning mechanism, data transfer and communication with the host computer. The ST15150N offers a formatted capacity of 4,294 MB and communicates through a narrow SCSI-2 interface. Its disks rotate at 7,200 revolutions per minute, equivalent to 120 complete rotations every second. As an indication of the changing scale of digital storage, its capacity was approximately equal to almost 3,000 standard 1.44 MB floppy disks.
• INTRACOM netMod-USB ISDN network termination unit

  Network termination and telecommunications interface unit manufactured by INTRACOM for basic-rate ISDN telephone services. The device connected the subscriber’s two-wire ISDN line to analogue telephones or fax machines, native ISDN terminal equipment and a personal computer. It incorporates two analogue telephone interfaces, two S-bus interfaces and RS-232 and USB data connections. When connected to a computer, it could be used for point-to-point data communications and Internet access, combining the two 64 kbit/s ISDN B channels to provide a maximum connection rate of 128 kbit/s. The object represents the transitional period in which digital ISDN services allowed voice, fax and computer data to share a single telephone connection before broadband Internet access became widespread.
• Micronet Shuttle 3000 SP3008E 56K Data/Fax/Voice Modem

  External analogue modem manufactured by Spectrum Technologies Corporation and sold under the Micronet brand. The device connected a personal computer to the public switched telephone network through an RS-232 serial interface, allowing dial-up Internet access, computer-to-computer data communication and fax transmission. It belongs to Micronet’s Shuttle 3000 modem series and supports the V.90 56K communication standard. A second telephone socket allowed a telephone handset to share the same subscriber line. The object illustrates the period before widespread broadband access, when domestic and office computers accessed online services through conventional analogue telephone lines.
• Intel Pentium III Slot 1 processor module with heatsink

  Intel Pentium III microprocessor module intended for installation in the Slot 1 connector of a desktop personal computer. The processor and its supporting electronic components are mounted on a printed circuit board housed within a black S.E.C.C.2 protective cartridge. A large finned aluminium heatsink is attached to the opposite side to dissipate heat generated during operation. The module connects to the computer motherboard through a 242-contact gold-plated edge connector. This cartridge-based design represents a transitional stage in personal-computer processor packaging before desktop CPUs returned predominantly to socket-mounted formats.
